Background
The NACPB Bookkeeper Certification Program was developed by a Certified Public Accounting
(CPA) firm to educate and certify the firms' bookkeeping personnel in order
to assist the firm's degreed accountants and CPAs in performing public accounting
services. The education and examination curriculum is based on a fundamental
understanding of bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, and financial management.
Understanding fundamental bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, and financial management
not only provide public bookkeepers the ability to produce timely, relevant,
and reliable financial information, but to help small business owners improve
their financial condition, profitability, and cash flow. Over the past 10 years,
the Bookkeeper Certification Program has been used by hundreds of public bookkeeping,
accounting, and CPA firms to educate and certify public bookkeeping personnel.
Objective
The primary objective of the Program is to help bookkeepers develop the knowledge
and skills to accurately and productively provide public bookkeeping services
and help small business owners improve their financial condition, profitability,
and cash flow.
The secondary objective is to enable Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) candidates to pass the Uniform CPB Examination in order to become a licensed CPB.

Requirements
The Program includes an educational component comprised of Accounting for Small Business training and the following three
guides: Accounting for Small Businesses, Financial
Management for Small Businesses, and Bookkeeping and Payroll Services. The training and
guides are for public bookkeepers who want to learn or enhance their knowledge
of
public bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, and financial management and serve
as the educational foundation for the three-part Uniform CPB Examination.
The training and guides can also be used as reference tools for public bookkeeping personnel.
To earn NACPB Bookkeeper Certification certification, candidates must complete the following steps:
1. View the Accounting for Small Businesses Training
2.
Study the Accounting for Small Businesses Guide.
3. Request access to the Accounting for Small Businesses Guide's part of the online Uniform CPB Examination.
4. Successfully complete and pass Accounting for Small Businesses Guide's part of the online Uniform
CPB Examination.
5. Repeat steps 2. - 4. for the remaining guides.

Uniform CPB Examination
The online, three-part, Uniform CPB Examination is used to test the NACPB Bookkeeper Certification or Certified Public Bookkeeper candidate's bookkeeping, accounting,
payroll, and financial management competency. Each part of the Exam consists
of 50 multiple choice questions and each part may be taken separately. As you complete the training and Guide you may request access to the exam via email or telephone during NACPB business hours M-F, 8 am - 5 pm MT and we email you a link to the part
of the Exam requested. You have 24 hours to take and submit the part of the
Exam for grading and the Exam is "open-book". You must receive
an 80% in order to pass the Exam. Exam results are made available to you
within 24 hours. If necessary, you must wait one full week to retake a part
of the Exam. To request a part of the Exam, email exams@nacpb.org or call

The Uniform CPB Examination tests the following:
Part 1: Accounting for Small Businesses - 1 to 2 hours
Part 2: Financial Management for Small Businesses - 1 to 2 hours
Part 3: Performing Bookkeeping and Payroll Systems - 1 hour to 2 hours
